To hide a photo or album from your timeline:
  1. Hover over the photo story on your timeline and click
  2. Click Hide from Timeline
Stories you hide will still show up in your activity log, which only you can see, and still be eligible to appear in your friends' News Feeds.

  1. Hover over the story and click
  2. Select Reposition Photo...
  3. Click on the photo and drag it into the position you want

You can also select Default Position at any time to move the photo back to it's original position.

You get to choose who you share things with on your timeline. To change the privacy of something on your timeline, first find the story. Use the audience selector to adjust the privacy of that story, or use the to hide that post from your timeline.

You can change the date of stories on your timeline, including your life events and any photos and videos you post or are tagged in. This will move the stories to a new spot on your timeline:
  1. Hover of the story and click
  2. Click Change Date
  3. Enter in a new date and click Confirm
Note: If you tag your friends in a photo or a post, they will also have the option to change the date of this story when they see it on their timelines. You’ll always have the option to change it back.

How do I star a story on my timeline? What does starring a story do?




To star a story on your timeline, simply:
  1. Hover over a story on your timeline
  2. Click
This allows you to highlight the stories you think are important. When you star a story, the story expands to widescreen. Starred stories are also always visible on your timeline.

Remember: You can always see the audience of stories you and your friends share from your timeline, and change the audience of things that you share.

What is a life event?




When you're filling in your timeline, you can use the Life Event option to add experiences from the different parts of your life. Unlike other stories, life events will automatically be starred on your timeline. They are also public by default, but you can adjust the audience at any time using the audience selector.

New stories
  • From the top of your timeline:
    1. Pick the type of story you want to add (ex:   Photo, Life Event)
    2. Add any details you want to add
    3. Use the menu at the bottom of the box to:

  • From anywhere on your timeline: Scroll to a spot on your timeline and click   to post a story to a specific date.

Stories behind the grey dots As you add more things to your timeline, some of your stories will fade behind grey dots going down the center of your timeline. Hover over these dots to preview each story, or click Resize to move this story out from behind the grey dot.

Stories from your activity log You can also highlight stories you find in your activity log by selecting Starred on Timeline.

For all stories The stories you star will always appear on your timeline, while other stories may fade behind the grey dots along the center of your timeline over time. Note that you can always choose who can see any story on your timeline using the audience selector under your name.

What are these combined stories (ex: map with all the places I’ve been)? How do I edit these stories?

These boxes show you a summary of your activity during a specific month. These summaries can include the friends you connected with, events you attended, pages that you liked, and places you visited during that month.

Hover over each box and click on the to view the individual stories highlighted in that box or hide the entire box from your timeline. Note that hiding a box from your timeline doesn’t hide the individual stories featured in that box. To hide an individual story, choose the View Individual Stories option and follow these directions. You can also remove stories from your timeline from your activity log.

How does Facebook choose which stories start on my timeline?

A number of things determine what’s included on your timeline, like:
  • The type of post (ex: photo, video, or status update)
  • Who posted it
  • How many friends are commenting on it

How do I get around my timeline (ex: view past events)?

You can scroll through your timeline, or use the menu of dates on the right side of your timeline to jump from year to year. For example, if you want to see what was going on in your life in August of 2007, all you have to do is click 2007 and then click Aug from the list of months that appear below 2007.

If you add a cover photo to your timeline, it will be visible to the public, just like your profile pictures. This means that anyone can see your current cover photo and any other images you’ve used as a cover. So unlike most of your other photo albums, when you visit your Cover Photos album you won’t see an option to adjust the album privacy settings.

When I share something, how do I choose who can see it?

Before you post, look at the audience selector. Use the dropdown menu to choose who you want to share a post with.
     Public

     Friends (+ friends of anyone tagged)

     Only Me

     Custom (Includes specific groups, friend lists or people you’ve specified to include or exclude)
You'll see this tool wherever you share content, whether it’s a status update or information on your profile (timeline).

The tool remembers the audience you shared with the last time you posted something and uses the same audience when you share again unless you change it. For example, if you choose Public for a post, your next post will also be Public unless you change this audience when you post.

If you want to change who you’re sharing with, open the dropdown menu and choose a different audience. Remember: anyone you tag in a post, along with their friends, may see the post.

To make it clear who you’re sharing with at all times, the audience you select appears along with whatever you are saying, every time you share. You can also use the audience selector to change who you are sharing with after you post something.

Note: You will not be able to use the audience selector unless you are posting on your own profile (timeline). If you post to another person's profile (timeline), the person whose profile (timeline) you are posting to controls what audience can view your post.

How do I display an alternate name (ex: nickname or maiden name) on my profile (timeline)?

If you'd like to list a second name on your account (ex: maiden name, nickname, or professional name), add an alternate name to your account:
  1. Click the account menu at the top right of any Facebook page.
  2. Choose Account Settings.
  3. Find the Name field and click Edit.
  4. Enter your alternate name.
  5. Check Include this on my profile (timeline) to have your alternate name listed on your profile (timeline). Otherwise, it will only help people find you in search.
  6. Save your changes.
Note: If you checked the box to have your alternate name listed on your profile (timeline), it will appear next to your name at the top of your personal profile (timeline) page. It will also show up next to your name in search results and any friend requests you send. If you have a large number of public subscribers, you may be prompted to verify your account when you add an alternate name to your profile (timeline).

This might be because the name you requested doesn't follow our name standards. If you've read our name policies and think that your name was rejected by mistake, let us know.

Who can see the Friends section of my timeline?
By default, everyone can see who your friends are in the Friends section of your timeline. To change this setting:
  1. Go to your timeline
  2. Click on the Friends unit, beneath your cover
  3. Click on the Edit button at the top of the page and use the audience selector to choose who can see your friends
You can also organize friends into smaller lists for your own use. These lists are not shown on your profile.

To edit your relationship status:
  1. From your timeline, click About
  2. Find the Relationships and Family box and click Edit
  3. Choose your relationship status from the dropdown menu
  4. If you’re in a relationship, type in the name of the person you’re with
  5. Choose an anniversary date (this is optional)
  6. Use the audience selector to choose who you want to share this information with
  7. Save your changes

How do I edit my Likes (ex: favorite bands, books, movies, people who inspire me, etc) from my timeline?

Your Likes unit shows the likes and interests you add along with Pages you Like on Facebook. To add to your Likes, pick from popular pages or search for your favorite things in the search bar at the top of every Facebook page. When you find a page for your interest (ex: your favorite band), you can add this to your timeline by clicking the Like button on that page.

You can also edit your Likes from your timeline:
  1. Go to your timeline
  2. Click on the Likes unit in the top bar, beneath your cover
  3. Click on the Edit button in the top-right corner
  4. Find the section you want to add to (ex: music, books, movies, etc)
  5. Type in the name of whatever you want to add, choose an audience for that section, and save your changes
  6. Click Done Editing when you’re finished
  7. Click on your name (at the top of the page) to get back to your timeline

for Time line only :- How do I edit my basic personal information (ex: contact info, relationships, work and education)

To edit your basic personal information, click on the Update Info button under your cover on your timeline. From here, you can edit your:
  • Basic Info (gender, birthday, languages, political and religious views)
  • Contact Info (email address, screen name, phone number, address, website)
  • Work and Education
  • Home (hometown and current city)
  • Relationships and Family
  • Favorite Quotations
  • About You
To edit the information in these sections, hover over each box and click the Edit link that appears in the top-right corner. Enter in your new info, use the audience selector to choose who you share this information with, and save your changes.
